Upcoming Events at the Institute of Contemporary Arts

There are some interesting events coming up at the ICA ...

Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2011: In the Presence

The current exhibition is Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2011: In the Presence which runs 'til the 15th January. It's an exciting competition show featuring work by recent graduates.

Here is a video preview:

There's a free tour at 6.30 on 12 January (need to book ahead), and then on the day after, there's a useful looking Salon talk:

Pricing and Funding: Friday 13 January, 2.30pm - 6.30pm
"Find it hard to price your work? Have questions about how to edition? Do you know how to pack your work safely for transit or how best to protect your work in a variety of conditions? Want some new ideas on how to raise funds for your next project?
Speakers include: Vicky Steer, Editions Manager, ICA, Sigrid Wilkinson, founder of Arts Co, Rob Tufnell, freelance curator and director of Rob Tufnell Gallery, and Rebecca Hellen, Conservator, Tate and Arts Council Collection."
From the 6th-15th January, the ICA hosts the 9th London Short Film Festival. Screenings start at various times and cost £10 full price / £8 concessions / £7 ICA Members.

Highlights include Low Budget Mayhem from 9pm on January 6th:

Still from Sweets by Anita Shukla, part of Low Budget Mayhem
"Expect a raucous show with our regular and popular Opening Night selection of out-there gems, from bad-taste depravity to bizarre animation. These films go to show that Lo and No Budget is the way to get noticed."

visiting the Whitechapel gallery next week...

The 'Trips and exhibitions' group are going to visit the Whitechapel Gallery on Weds 14th Dec.

I'd love to see the work on display by Wilhelm Sasnal.
The Gallery's website says this about him:

In a visual culture flooded by photographic images, Sasnal’s work attests to the continuous spellbinding power of painting. This exhibition surveys his work of the past ten years. It opens with recent works referencing world events and the artist’s extensive travels before returning to Pop-inspired work from the 1990s and reflections on the troubled history of his native Poland

Visit the Whitechapel Gallery website and see more images, and read more about the artist.

Hope to see you there!
